Dear Friends, Happy New Year 2019!! The passage of time is an uncanny phenomenon. The days go by slowly and the years fly by at an unbelievable rate. Here we are, about to begin a new year. With it, a new year brings a sense of hope and optimism; a clean slate and a new chance to begin again. (I think I say this every year!) The optimism is about believing we can all be better versions of ourselves. We all have aspects of ourselves we battle each day. We want to be better, to stop the battle, to finally conquer that beast that tortures us on a daily basis. Whether it’s something we wish we didn’t do or something we wish we did do, it doesn’t matter. It’s a reason we are unkind to ourselves in our minds. Many parents wish they yelled less, were more patient, made more time for themselves, live a calmer life, didn’t rush so much, and so much more. This is a time for self-reflection and introspection about what is and what could be. So, here is my confession to you all. I’m working to be a better version of myself by not being a slave to my phone and to social media. I dive in to Facebook all too often. I stay there much too long and lose myself doing something that is not serving me nor helping me move toward my goals. My phone is a useful tool, enabling me to run my business from anywhere, but I no longer choose to be held hostage by it. I have stuff to get done and I’m going to do it! I bought a daily planner with questions and daily goals that will help me stay focused on what I want to accomplish. I have friends who are willing to support me and hold me accountable. I know that these supports will increase my chances for success. So, my friends, what is holding you back? What beliefs need to be challenged? What behaviors need to be refocused? Whether it’s the desire to eat healthy, get fit, lose weight, make more money, honor your passions, conquer your fears or to do something completely outside of the box, let’s work together to make it happen! With collaboration and support, we are more likely to be successful! Email me at bette@balancedparenting.com and tell me your goal and how I can support you. An email on a regular basis? A phone call? A therapy session to unpack the why’s of those destructive behaviors? I’m here for you and I thank you all for being here for me and for supporting my work. Here’s to making 2019 an unprecedented year!! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and safe New Year, Bette P.S. Save the date for a very important Book Club meeting on January 9, 2019! We will be discussing the book “Glow Kids” by Nicholas Kardaras. We will discuss the impact of screens and electronics on our kids (and ourselves) and how to parent through it all. Don’t miss this one!! |
