Happy November, my friends,
I love November! It’s the month of Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. I talk about gratitude practice and focusing on gratitude for the month of November every year. This year, let’s elevate this practice to a new level.
We talk about what we are grateful for, but what actions do we put into place? We say “thank you” or we say “I’m so grateful for…” but how do we SHOW our gratitude???
Let’s help our kids have very concrete experiences with gratitude. Are you grateful for having a roof over your head? Then, let’s think about what we could do for those who aren’t as lucky and actually have to think about where they’re going to sleep tonight. Make blankets, buy coats, make dinners and donate them to the local shelters and homeless programs we have in our community.
Are you grateful for your family? Then, let’s think about the kids who have been removed from their homes or who are in the foster care system and find out what those kids need to feel a little more comfortable or cared for this Thanksgiving.
Are you grateful for your friends? Then, let’s think about the kids at your kids’ schools who dread coming to school because they have no one to sit with at lunch or they don’t have the coolest new jeans and feel weird or left out. Practice being a friend to someone who needs a friend.
These are just my ideas. Help your kids think about the things they are grateful for and see what they come up with to elevate their gratitude practice with some concrete actions and lovingkindness.
I am so grateful for the community with whom I work and with whom I am lucky enough to share my passion for healthy parenting!!
Many thanks and much love to you all!
Bette
